What does Google think about smart metering?
Written by: Previous staff on 17 July, 2009An interesting posting appeared on Google’s public policy blog yesterday which once again set out not only their support for smart meters but what they are doing to better leverage their use. One key part of this is the Google PowerMeter. In brief, it will enable users to access information about their own energy use on their iGoogle home page. This reminds me of an earlier posting which highlighted that it is possible to receive updates about your home’s energy use via Twitter.
The post then goes on to note the importance of increasing consumer awareness via social networks. This is an interesting idea and one wonders what kind of open source applications could help to facilitate this. Will we see Facebook groups springing up to embrace smart meters? Or people twittering each other to highlight their energy saving prowess? I’d welcome your thoughts on this.
Anyway, have a read and have a great weekend.
