At this year's Technology & Financial Reform Conference, top name financial services speakers will examine the operational/technology implications of the financial services systems reform, as well as the changing landscape in this sector.

Speakers from across the financial services system will provide an insight into the challenges facing banks and the wider financial system in implementing the largest and most comprehensive reform programme in decades.

Overview

Technology & Financial Services Reform Conference Overview

The relationship between financial services and technology is one of fundamental importance. As the Office for Fair Trading has recently stated,

“IT systems are the backbone of retail banking activities and are essential to the safety and resilience of financial systems”.

Technology not only plays a critical role in the functioning of individual firms, it underpins the entire financial system and it will play a critical role in the reform of this system.

The right technology can help depress costs, reduce risk and improve the service provided to customers, all of which are of paramount importance in the current economic environment. Applied inappropriately and it can contribute to institutional and systemic risk, lead to reduced inward investment and ultimately have a detrimental effect on the economy.

The financial system is at a crucial juncture, Technology & Financial Services Reform Conference will look at the key issues that both financial services providers and regulators will have to address as policy deliberation moves to policy implementation. As well as ongoing changes to people, processes and technology in order to implement reforms such as retail banking ring fences, increased loss absorbency and special resolution regimes will present persistent challenges to all banks over the coming months and years.

Technology & Financial Reform Conference 2011 will address these key challenges and provide attendees with insight from across the financial services spectrum.

Specific issues that will be covered over the day by an assortment of respected speakers include:

  • Operational and technology challenges of implementing widespread reform in the retail banking sector (including the Independent Commission on Banking’s recommendations)
  • Role of data & information in regulatory reform and financial stability
  • Special resolution regimes – including living wills
  • The role of technology in increasing competition within the banking sector
  • Legal challenges for the reform of the financial system

Hosted by Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology industry, the conference will provide a unique assessment of the implications of the raft of reform that the financial services sector is currently facing.
