With attendees from across the country and around the world, the UK Space Conference 2011 will:

• be a forum to discuss key issues between government, industry and academia

• foster cohesion and strength in the UK space sector by stimulating cross-community ideas sharing and act as a networking hub to increase collaborative working

• provide an opportunity for students to learn about space careers prospects and for industry to recruit motivated and skilled people

• be a showcase for the UK space sector to the country as a whole.

• increase knowledge at all levels on national space policy and the UK space programme

• help demonstrate the UK’s global leadership in the space sector and provide opportunities for international collaboration and investment.

Who should attend?

Industry – The space industry is a successful and important hi-tech sector of the UK economy. It covers a broad range of areas, ranging from satellite manufacturers and software designers, to satellite operators and service providers. The UK Space Conference encourages participation by both those companies currently involved in space sector supply chain and those interested in using space technologies or applications.

Academics - Covering a wide field of space science and technology research, the UK Space Conference 2011 will present an excellent opportunity for academic and research delegates to make connections across both industry sector and the public sector. Research professionals should take the opportunity to attend and share findings and discuss trends with experts from around the world.

Government - The conference will provide an opportunity to learn more about the role of the UK Government in promoting, funding and utilizing space-based technologies. This will focus on the continuing development of the UK Space Agency, as well the use of space data across other Government departments. Civil servants from all levels of government are encouraged to attend to find out more about the opportunities presented by space technologies and the impact of space on the national economy.

Students -  Space offers one of the most varied and exciting ways to teach science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects. The space industry provides a range of exciting jobs and needs well-qualified workers to continue its expansion, and both education and careers will be a major theme for the UK Space Conference. Students in further and higher education are encouraged to attend to take advantage of the opportunity to discuss careers in the space sector directly with industry and academic partners.

Educators - The UK office of the European Space Education Resource Office (ESERO) will be holding its national conference in parallel with the UK Space Conference in Warwick. The ESERO provides space-related resources to help teachers to deliver the STEM curriculum. Many of these resources already exist at a local level or elsewhere in Europe, but the ESERO has developed networks of educators to collate, evaluate and promote them. Educators from all key stages will be able to discuss the role of space in education, and outreach programme for schools may also be arranged.

Media -  The national media will be expected to cover the broader themes of the conference, and specialist media may want to participate in those substantive discussions of the conference that are relevant to their area of expertise. In addition, more in-depth media involvement, such as television and social media discussions, will be actively pursued by the UK Space Agency, conference partners and sponsors.
