Intellect welcomes the National Audit Office report on the National Programme for IT

HandshakeIntellect welcomes the National Audit Office's report on the National Programme for IT (NPfIT) in the NHS and is pleased to see that the vision for the programme remains intact and that all the elements of the programme are advancing with some already complete.

The report highlights the achievements and benefits of the programme, including an estimated £1.14 billion in savings by 2014.

The complexity of the programme has led to a number of challenges and the NAO's scrutiny is valuable. Intellect welcomes the report's recommendations, which will help to ensure that the original vision for the programme is delivered while allowing sufficient flexibility for the provision of additional functionality. This will help to ensure that the demands of a constantly evolving environment, in which new requirements are generated by both policy and operational changes, will be met.
