Intellect's Director General speaks at launch of greening ICT strategy

Intellect has welcomed the government's new strategy for greening ICT, which was announced last week by the Cabinet Office

Speaking at the launch Intellect's Director General, John Higgins, praised the government for taking action and gave the industry view.

"I welcome today's announcement of the government's Green IT guidelines. The High Tech sector around the world has demonstrated that it can make its own products more energy-efficient and use technology to generate wider carbon savings. The industry recognises the crucial role of government procurement in shaping the market and looks forward to working closely together. Intellect's Public Sector Council agreed yesterday to form a dedicated task group to focus on the issue and help make today's ambitions for greening government IT a reality."

Speakers: Clive Grinyer, Cisco IBSG; Chris Turner, Cambridge Consultants; and Rob Thompson, Central St. Martins School of Art & Design

Intellect is pleased to invite members to the next meeting concerning 'Product Design', a dedicated interest group for anyone with an interest in the field of technology product design. Formed in 2007, the group focuses on formulating best practice in technology product design as well as the discussion of the relative benefits of emerging enabling technologies.

This meeting of the Product Design Forum will follow two differing work strands. The morning session will focus on three key areas:

• effective integration of the needs of end-users in the design process
• innovations in micro-electronic design
• emerging Enabling technologies

The afternoon session will be based around a roundtable discussion for Intellect members and invited guests, and will seek to establish the key workstreams for the Product Design Forum moving forward.

Intellect welcomes the publication of the Information Commissioner’s Data Sharing Review Report

Intellect believes that the extensive consultation undertaken by the report’s authors with the technology industry and other stakeholders, was extremely beneficial.
Nick Kalisperas, director of public sector at Intellect, comments: “Data security is not just about technology – it is also about procedure and business process. If we ignore this, data will most certainly be at risk."

Report's emphasis on information management welcomed

Intellect welcomes the health informatics report which underlines the vital role that informatics plays in the delivery of health and social care services, both now and in the future.

However, we believe that if informatics are to be properly implemented in the NHS then its success depends on early engagement with the industry to ensure there is a proper understanding of industry's capability and capacity to deliver any given solution.

Intellect is pleased to invite you to the launch of the Telematics Group. The group aims to support and add value for stakeholders and members who produce hardware and firmware that support telematics solutions, as well as network operators that allow them to function.

The launch event on Monday 15 September 2008 will feature a range of well-known speakers and focus on the use and application of telematics technologies for freight management, currently the primary market for telematics solutions in the UK.
