Phil Hemmings appointed to the UKCCIS |
We are pleased to announce that Phil Hemmings, chair of Intellect's Education Group, has been appointed as Intellect's representative to the UK Council for Child Internet Safety and will participate in the council's Better Education Working Group. |
Reporting directly to the prime minister, the council unites over 100 private and public sector organisations working with the government to implement the recommendations of the Bryon Review, Safer Children in a Digital World.
The council, launched in September 2008, aims to improve 'regulation and education on internet use - tackling problems of online bullying, safer search features, and violent video games.' Leadership of the council is provided by the Executive Board, chaired by ministers from the Department for Children, Schools and Families and the Home Office, and includes officials from other government departments and the Devolved Administrations. Council members will also participate in one of the working groups responsible for taking forward the key recommendations of the Bryon Review. The answer to rural broadband provision was successfully showcased at an event on Superfast Broadband and the Role of Wireless Workshop, hosted by Intellect, the trade association for the high-tech industries. The demonstration of a fully operational 2Mbit/s satellite broadband link was a technology example on the day which supported the speakers' joint call to government to give serious consideration now to satellite and terrestrial wireless solutions, and to speed up the release of spectrum. |

Managed Print Services: A Business Tool for the Information Age
Recent ICM research has found that unnecessary printer downtime is costing every European business, on average, £15,000 a year. Intellect has launched its first guide on Managed Print Services (MPS), aimed at both customer and supplier communities. The paper provides an industry standard definition of core services included in MPS, and outlines the breadth of benefits these can provide organisations, particularly those looking at how they can help mitigate the effects of the recession by controlling their print costs, all the while improving their carbon footprint and maximising security and compliance.
