ID and Information Management - Privacy by design

This is the fourth of our lunchtime seminars based around the theme: Articulate, Think, Eat (ATE).

Articulate: Brought back by popular demand, each lunchtime event introduces a leading and respected opinion former from the world of politics, media and academia. Delivering valuable insight and information into the wider issues surrounding the work of the technology industry, these bite-size sessions are not to be missed.

Think: Speeches will take place before the meal allowing you and audience members to gather thoughts and form your opinions for later discussion.

Eat: Networking opportunities over a three-course meal will then allow the issues raised to be debated at a leisurely length.

Guest speaker

Jonathan Bamford joined the staff of the Data Protection Registrar when the office was first established in early 1985. He has remained through the transition to Information Commissioner with the introduction of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Freedom of Information Act 2000. The Information Commissioner enforces this legislation in the UK. Jonathan is Assistant Commissioner with the role of Director of Data Protection Development His main duties focus on data protection policy development and promotion. He leads the ICO's work on 'surveillance society' issues and on developments such as e-Borders, electronic health records, ID cards and video surveillance. He is involved in the ICO's international data protection duties and is a member of the joint supervisory authorities for Europol and the Customs Information System. He also represents the UK at the meetings of the Schengen Information System Joint Supervisory Authority.

The Information Commissioner is at the forefront of ensuring that privacy friendly and data protection compliant approaches are adopted and the talk will concentrate on the tools he is developing from the use of his new privacy impact assessment framework to the deployment of privacy enhancing technologies.
