Clive Richardson Chief Operating Officer EMEA QinetiQ
Clive Richardson was born in Grimsby in the UK and educated at Clee Humberstone Foundation School in Lincolnshire, Kings’ College London, (where he read law) and the Inns of Court School of Law at Grays’ Inn. He was called to the Bar in 1982 and in 1983 joined British Aerospace. He travelled extensively and helped to sell the BAe 146 Regional jet aircraft in Australia, Indonesia, the United States and Europe.
Clive left BAe in the late 1980s and worked for Westland Helicopters and GEC Marconi prior to returning to become Commercial Director of BAe Airbus Limited. In November 1999 he was appointed Managing Director of Royal Ordnance plc. In January 2000 he became responsible for the former Marconi Land and Naval Systems when this business was integrated with Royal Ordnance plc to become RO Defence.
In May 2005 Insyte was created, bringing together the assets of AMS (UK) and BAE Systems Network Systems and Solutions and Clive was made its first CEO. Insyte is a leading producer of sensors, combat management systems and complex integrated mission systems. These systems provide high reliability data fusion and real time processing in the most extreme operating environments in defence and in homeland security.
Clive was asked to join QinetiQ and in June 2007 appointed COO EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Australasia), which focuses on developing business outside the US. QinetiQ aim to be recognised internationally as the people who deliver value from science and technology.
Clive is a member of the influential UK National Defence Industries Council, the Government/Industry defence consultation authority, which aims to ensure that the interests of the UK defence industry and the UK MoD converge. The NDIC is chaired by the Minister for Defence Procurement and other government departments represented include the Treasury and the Dti. Its work this year has centred on the development of a Defence Industrial Strategy for the UK and it will be closely involved in steering the implementation of DIS in the future.
Intellect is the trade association representing companies within the IT, telecoms and electronics sector. As Main Board Director and VP Defence Clive represents the interests of Intellect’s defence company members.
He has three children. A former rugby player Clive still likes to keep fit. He runs, skis and plays golf and enjoys going to the theatre and reading books. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and Commerce.
