Concept Viability... early customer engagement with the supply community
ID Cards: Towards Procurement and Implementation 06 June 2005 The UK hi-tech industry and Government met to discuss the progression of the Government's proposed ID Cards Scheme and to examine the key issues surrounding the procurement and implementation aspects of the project.
This one-day conference, organised by Intellect and supported by The Home Office, was a continuation of the ongoing dialogue between suppliers and Government. It provided increased understanding of the current technological capabilities and refined requirements ahead of any future procurement.
Speaking at the event, John Higgins, Intellect Director General said:
"For the ID Cards project to be a success it is imperative that industry and government have a complete understanding of the proposed schemes requirements, objectives and goals. This event was the next stage in an ongoing dialogue between Intellect and the Home Office. We consider today to be a positive and intelligent development. Early supplier engagement between customers and suppliers is fundamental to government modernisation project success. Only through a comprehensive understanding of the industry, its capacity and its capabilities will the Government be in a position to develop an ID Card scheme capable of delivering on its promises to citizens."
"Moving forward, as the Identity Cards Bill continues its passage through Parliament, Intellect will engage with Parliamentarians and other stakeholders in an effort to address the issues and concerns these individuals and groups may have over the technical aspect of the ID Card solution."
"Intellect members and the wider UK technology industry have the ability to meet the technological challenges created by the Government’s ID Cards proposals, and are confident that the proposed 2008 deadlines can be met. We would invite all who express concern about the technological implications of the Card to engage with us in a robust discussion."
