Intellect Annual Conference & Dinner
19 May 2005

Conference sponsored by Welsh Development Agency
Dinner sponsored by EDS

Intellect's Annual Conference and Dinner was held on Thursday 19 May at the Savoy Hotel. The Conference was attended by over 200 delegates from 134 member organisations and was the forum for a series of hotly contested thematic debates. An advocate and challenger were asked to put each motion to the test, supported by a panel of experts, before delegates were encouraged to put their own questions and ideas to the speakers.

The debates covered a broad range of themes, from ICT's impact on national security, to the success (or otherwise) of public-sector IT programmes. The challengers proved particularly adept at playing devil's advocate and in doing so, they highlighted some of the real difficulties that our industry faces.

Delegates were also able to welcome Intellect's new President, John Woodget, Managing Director of Intel UK. John outlined some of the issues and challenges Intellect will tackle on behalf of its members in the coming months, including work on the Knowledge Economy and convergence.

Later in the day 350 guests joined us for the third Intellect Annual Dinner, many of those attending no doubt excited to hear Boris Johnson's infamous words of wisdom. Boris did not disappoint, although one member was heard to complain that Boris had not worn his celebrated bicycle clips to the occasion! There's no pleasing some people…
