The Consumer Electronics Council is the steering group for policy setting and decision making on issues that affect Intellect's Consumer Electronics members. The council focuses on directing sector representation to Government, broadcasters and technical bodies on digital television switchover in the UK; environmental affairs including the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive; market development issues such as ensuring appropriate spectrum is available for roll out of High Definition Television (HDTV) services in the UK and trade policy issues such as the reform of the International Trade Agreement. The council is made up of senior directors from each of Intellect's consumer electronics members.

Over the next three years the council will:

• communicate industry opinions and positions to ensure a clear and successful DTV switchover process in the UK
• develop and co-ordinate a campaign for the successful implementation of the WEEE Directive in the UK
• sustain and grow influence and profile within Government, media and other industry stakeholders
