DAB Digital Radio Group

Next meeting:

The market for DAB digital radios is growing fast and annual volume growth in the UK of 50% up to 2009 is predicted. There are multiple stakeholders in this expanding marketplace and the Intellect DAB Group allows manufacturers to come together to discuss the development of the market and manufacturer specific issues that require agreement and communication. The objective of the group is to consolidate manufacturers views relating to DAB Digital Radio and to represent these views to key stakeholders such as broadcasters, Government and Ofcom.

A key function of the group is liaison with the Digital Radio Development Bureau, a broadcaster led organisation which works to drive demand for DAB in the UK, and World DAB who co-ordinate the implementation of DAB internationally.

Group priorities:

  • establish itself as the spokesbody for DAB manufacturers
  • agree on use of a specific DAB logo and communicate this to other stakeholders
  • explore minimum quality/performance level agreement and market value for manufacturers
  • work to clarify the policing of royalties
  • support the growth of DAB in other EU member states
