At a glance: EMCC influences EMC-related legislation and guidelines to ensure changes to international standards are justified and proportionate.

The majority of the committee work is done by email; physical meetings are infrequent and called only when necessary.

Focus: influencing regulations such as new European EMC directives and guidelines and ensures changes to international standards are justified and proportionate. The committee recognises that member resources are now very limited and the UK position towards international standards is increasingly dominated by laboratories and consultants. Intellect's strategy is to prioritise around the biggest issues and accept the cost impact of tougher standards elsewhere on product design and testing.

Key issues:

  • the impact of the New Legislative Framework, and other regulatory matters
  • guidelines to the EMC Directive
  • lobby BIS where necessary to minimise the impact of adverse changes and maximise the benefits
  • formulate Intellect's views on the draft standards in BSI and elsewhere • equitable emission limits between radio and non-radio (e.g. above 1GHz)
  • equitable responsibilities and benefits of digital dividend
  • prevention of unnecessarily strict immunity requirements
  • promotion of technology-neutral requirements
  • appropriate treatment of EMC requirements for military equipment
