Intellect, the trade association for the UK IT, telecommunications and electronics industries, calls for further investigation following from reports that tonight’s Dispatches programme on Channel 4, is to feature alleged breaches of security in call centres based in India. Commenting, John Higgins, director general at Intellect said: “Whilst we have not seen an advanced screening of the programme in question, any reported allegations would be a cause for concern. If there have been any breaches in the law, it needs to be acted upon and investigated as a matter of urgency. Data theft is a global problem and not just confined to India. India already has very rigorous measures in place. However, if there has been any criminal activity, those involved must be brought to justice and made an example of. Therefore we call on the programme makers and all relevant authorities to meet as soon as possible to develop a clear plan of action.”
