Concept Viability... early customer engagement with the supply community
08/05/2006
Intellect, the UK trade body for the hi-tech sector, today started a consultation on its draft guidelines for organisational professionalism in IT. The guidelines are part of an industry wide initiative, 'Prof IT', which is headed up by an alliance of the British Computer Society (BCS), e-skills UK, Intellect and the National Computing Centre (NCC) and aims to improve professionalism throughout the IT value chain. Both initiatives were announced today at the BCS Prof IT 2006 Conference. The Intellect guidelines, to be published in Autumn 2006, will help organisations to implement, demonstrate and assess IT professionalism. In addition to working with the alliance partners on these issues, in the coming months Intellect will consult with all stakeholders on the issues raised in the draft guidelines. The guidelines focus on seven key elements of organisational professionalism: integrity, processes, people, communication. relationships, learning and citizenship. John Higgins, Intellect Director General, commented, "The UK's ICT industries make a substantial contribution to the quality of our lives and the prosperity of the nation. They are also a major employer and exporter. However, these industries and the people they employ are often perceived as lacking professionalism and up to now there has been no benchmark for IT professionalism in organizations. This initiative will hopefully go some way to engendering trust between suppliers and customers, thus enabling the delivery of successful IT programmes which will contribute to the prosperity of the UK."
