The Defence sector within Intellect is comprised of clusters seeking to respond to the Land, Naval, Air and Joint requirements of the Armed Forces on a global scale. As a trade association and think-tank, Intellect draws together key information from Senior Executives who represent companies ranging from prime Industrial players, through to specialised SMEs in the supply chain.
Collation of information and a directional consensus is achieved through Working Committees which attempt to address critical issues within the market place in line with emerging developments. Running parallel to the technical focus of the Working Groups, members also focus upon improving the methodology required for contracting. This covers strategies such as engagement with the customer, acquisition philosophies, innovation strategies and contracting models. The Committees operate within a three-year life cycle, each focusing upon aims aligned to their specialist sectors.
In addition to progressing Intellect's overarching aims predominantly by influencing ministerial policy through the maintenance of an open dialogue with key individuals in both the Ministry of Defence and indeed at ministerial level, participating industry members derive a multitude of practical benefits.
The ability to establish relationships intra-industry is an important factor in the process of attaining a common understanding of the challenges facing the defence contractor. Intellect conducts regular briefing sessions where mutual knowledge-share and the transfer of best-practice provide a firm grounding for the improvement of the position of the contractor.
