Intellect incorporates Intellect Association for Biometrics

Technology trade association treads new ground, launching first biometrics group

Intellect, the UK trade association for the technology industries, has launched a new working group – the Intellect Association for Biometrics. The group will aim to ensure that both policy makers and the technology industry are fully informed and able to address this biometrics market in a cohesive and consultative way. It incorporates the former International Association for Biometrics and is Intellect’s first specific biometric group.

Companies joining the group will benefit from sharing expertise, information and ideas between the biometrics industry and external stakeholders, including the government. Intellect will also strive to encourage growth of the market and promote consumer education on their behalf.

John Higgins, director general of Intellect comments: “Recognising the rapidly growing importance of this sector, we have formed a biometrics group. It is comprised of members of the former International Association for Biometrics and existing Intellect members and as such provides a broad representation of the sector.  I look forward to working with our new group to promote and grow the UK biometrics industry further.”

The Intellect Association for Biometrics will work closely with other related Intellect programmes including identity management, security and resilience and criminal justice. It will hold monthly speaker-led meetings from September covering topics including biometrics and the banking and health industries and facial recognition over CCTV.
