Battlespace Systems Council



At a glance:
The BSC develops industrial policy contributions and papers in the joint NEC (Network Enabled Capability) and C4ISTAR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) sectors, where technology and industrial innovation delivers critical operational benefits to UK forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Focus: a cross-domain area, where technology enables UK Defence and coalition partners to utilise and integrate personnel, equipment and information assets. Working at policy and pre-competitive levels, the Council influences both government and industry’s behaviour through workshops, forums and informative meetings, as well as through policy consultations, the production of original papers and thought leadership work.

Key issues/objectives for 2010:

  • Combat Identification (including situational awareness)
  • Through Life Capability Management
  • Incrementalism and Modularity
  • Commercial-off-the-shelf Procurement
  • Exportability
  • Developing 'fast cycle' Acquisition Processes for ISTAR
