About the group

The Digital Communications Market Group brings together member companies who produce digital communications technology and services for the UK market and want to understand the current trends impacting their own and their customers businesses. The group is a speaker-led forum that mixes market trends and analysis with presentations from technology customers, industry commentators and innovators. Group meetings also provide a forum to discuss and debate the emerging market trends and opportunities.

Aims and objectives

Through our various activities, we seek to create an environment in which our members can be more successful in business within the digital communications market by:

  • identifying the market propositions, applications and services that we expect to emerge
  • accessing current market data and trends
  • discussing how innovative companies and solutions will push growth in the digital communications market
  • hearing from senior customers and stakeholders in the communications and new media sectors
  • encouraging networking and collaboration between member companies

Prospective programme of events

The Digital Communications Market Group will start its programme of events in early December with an examination of the BBC’s new iPlayer, chaired by a leading industry figure. There will be a market analyst’s presentation on the subject followed by a talk from a member of the BBC’s iPlayer team on the range of technology used in constructing the iPlayer. The group will then be consulted on the issues that they would like to see examined at subsequent events. This may include issues like:

  • creating and selling the smart connected home – barriers and solutions
  • next generation telcoms services – fixed mobile and integrated
  • new technology applications an services driving web 2.0
  • next generation broadcasting IPTV, HD and beyond
  • development of next generation gaming technology
  • wireless broadband market trends, applications and services
  • irresistible consumer electronics – designing and selling the new digital devices
