International Register of Certified Auditors (IRCA)
The International Register of Certificated Auditors (IRCA) was formed in 1984 as part of the UK government's enterprise initiative, designed to make industry and business more competitive, through the implementation of quality principles and practices. Around 26,000 auditors have been awarded certification since 1984, and over 105 countries are currently represented on the IRCA register.
IRCA's governance is divided between two bodies; the Business Board and an independent Certification Committee, within which Intellect is represented. The Business Board is responsible for strategy, operations, planning, finance, and all other commercial and business issues, whilst the Certification Committee is responsible for matters associated with certification and the development, maintenance and oversight of the certification programmes.
The Certification Committee's terms of reference include responsibility for approving all new or revised certification schemes, overseeing the certification processes involved in IRCA's activities and acting as the guardian of IRCA's integrity. The constitution of the committee reflects the range of interests corresponding to the range of services offered by IRCA, with no interest predominating.
