Intellect's Defence Briefing Group provides a forum to inform members and decision makers on issues that affect both industry and MoD. Through workshops, papers and speaker programme, the group engages with Government-side stakeholders to provide members with a range of views on key issues of the day. The group also provides key MOD figures with the opportunity to engage a well-informed audience from the broad range of industries that Intellect represents, and offers members the ability to network and engage with other suppliers.

In order to focus our activities and contribute effectively to the issues that face the MOD and its suppliers, our programme is organised around key themes emerging from the MOD. Our programme in 2008 addresses the issues raised in the provocatively written RUSI paper “Is NEC Dead?” The paper questions whether the structures of MOD and industry are shaped to support the delivery of Network Enabled Capability (NEC), how to best deliver a coherent architecture, whether current acquisition process can deliver the complex programmes which underpin NEC, how to make NEC affordable, and whether the non-equipment lines of development are adequately addressed. Our group’s briefing programme will invite key MOD decision makers with influence or knowledge of these areas to present on the issues they face.

Following each meeting, the group will look at the issues raised by the speakers, offering for example, thought leadership papers in the areas of the use of COTS, adopting open architectures, security and assurance, improving delivery approaches and approaches to MOD-Industry partnering.
