About the group

Intellect’s Defence Research & Technology Council represents the interests of its member industries to defence stakeholders involved in the planning, funding and conduct of research and technology. Working within Intellect’s overall Defence & Security strategy, the group aims to assist MOD in the formulation of effective R&T policy; and to ensure awareness of the role and capabilities of the technology industry.

By engaging with Government representatives, regulators and influencers across the defence space, the council represents industry’s collective views on R&T topics, and provides a forum for members and customer stakeholders to share understanding, expertise, and experience.

Group activities include:

  • A programme of regular meetings with key players in R&T
  • Production of guidance and white papers on R&T policy topics
  • Engagement through other industry and government channels including NDIC Research & Development sub-group

Council aims and objectives:

  • Facilitate industry’s contribution to policy through dialogue with stakeholders, including responses to formal and informal consultations
  • Promote the technology sector’s capabilities to Government
  • Advise on R&T best practice, including the promotion of innovation, technology refresh and the exploitation of new technologies
  • Improve the UK environment for defence R&T
  • Enhance and maintain members’ awareness of the R&T market
  • Encourage networking and collaboration between members and with customer stakeholders.
