Tom Wills-Sandford is Director Deputy General at Intellect. Before the merger of FEI and CSSA to form Intellect he was ICT Director of FEI, a role he was appointed to in January 1998.

Since he joined FEI and subsequently Intellect he has lead a number of high profile public policy campaigns on behalf of the industry. For 18 months he was the mobile phone industry’s spokesman on the alleged health effects of mobile phones. This was the first time the industry had come together on this issue and his time in this role culminated in the chairmanship of an industry delegation appearing before the Science and Technology Select Committee of the House of Commons.

Subsequent campaigns have included the industry’s response to the controversial RIP (Regulation of Investigatory Powers) Bill (now Act), early lobbying and staff leadership of a hugely successful campaign to secure Tax Credits for UK based Research and Development, and lastly Broadband. Tom was responsible for strategic changes to the Broadband Stakeholders Group and the decision of the BSG to appoint an independent chairman.

In his current role he is responsible for all of Intellect’s outward facing activities, including Campaigns. Intellect’s board has identified seven specific campaigns to improve the environment in which our members operate.

Tom has overall responsibility for the campaigning process and “owns” one of the campaigns - A Better Deal for SMEs and the Public Sector.

Tom went to school in the UK, and subsequently university in the US and worked there for a further 7 years. He has an undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a Masters degree in the same subject from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

He is a member of the Broadband Stakeholders Group Executive, a member of the PITCOM Council, a member of the Cornell University Council and on the Committee (Board) of The Hurlingham Club.
