Recent Work  
 
·Advising LG Electronics concerning assignments of its patent portfolio and acting in three recent High Court patent infringement proceedings relating to computer systems architecture.  
 
·Acting for Hynix Semiconductor in patent litigation concerning SDRAM design and computer bus protocols and on the EU Competition/IP interface aspects of a complaint made against a third party.  
 
·Advising the developer of a graphical user interface for interactive electronic systems concerning intellectual property aspects.  
 
·Advising a lending bank concerning security over intellectual property in software used in new generation mobile telephone and PDA technology.  
 
·Acting for a major UK technology PLC concerning its electronic trading system patents.  
 
General Experience  
 
William has a broad practice within the intellectual property field including dispute resolution and transactional work, with a particular focus on litigation concerning patents and engineering designs.  
 
His work includes not only international patent litigation and other contentious matters but also the IP aspects of corporate acquisitions, commercial agreements, technology transfer and licensing. He is particularly active in advising the electronics industry, and has handled complex patent litigation in recent years for Hynix Semiconductor, LG Electronics and TRW Aerospace.  
 
Background  
 
William is a senior solicitor in Simmons & Simmons’ Intellectual Property Group. He graduated in 1990 with a degree in Engineering from Cambridge University, and qualified as a solicitor in 1994. He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents.
