Technology industry supports UK-US defence trade co-operation treaty

Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology industry, today welcomed the signing of the long-awaited UK-US Defence Co-operation Treaty. The treaty improves the sharing of vital defence technology between UK and US Government and industry, and will prove a powerful tool for the UK’s globally renowned defence technology sector.

Once ratified, this treaty will enable industry in both countries to better share ideas in the early stages of development and collaborate on defence projects more effectively. This will help UK companies to better take advantage of the huge US market, and will allow UK armed forces to benefit from the strengths and capabilities of US industry.

Commenting, Joel Grundy, Programme Manager at Intellect, said: “This is a time of increasing international competition in defence, and many UK companies already work with allies and partners to develop the innovative technologies which keep UK industry at the cutting edge. British defence companies are world leaders in many areas, and this treaty will help them to continue bringing expertise, investment and jobs to the UK.”
