Intellect launches Code of Practice for contract manufacturers

Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology industry, will today launch a code of practice for electronic manufacturing services companies. All the members of Intellect’s Association for Contract Electronics Manufacturers (ACeM) have agreed to adhere to the code and the group hopes that it will be adopted across the industry.

The code provides a benchmark for customers and for the industry against which they can measure performance. It also aims to encourage high-quality work and greater professionalism in the sector.

The code covers 20 areas from products to individual skills and professionalism. As well as more traditional areas like risk management and dispute resolution, it also includes ‘softer’ topics like corporate social responsibility and sharing of best practice.

Phil Inness, chair of the Intellect ACeM group comments: “I believe the code of best practice is an important landmark for the contract manufacturing industry in the UK. In signing up to it, Intellect members are showing their commitment to a solid future for the sector in the UK – we have deliberately included a wide range of areas in the code as we wanted it to be of value not just now, but in years to come too.

“Many of the major contract manufacturing companies have signed up to this way of working and all stakeholders, including customers, suppliers and employees can be confident that they are dealing with a firm of high integrity and professionalism. This will be the industry standard for contract manufacturing.”
