Jeremy Paxman

Jeremy PaxmanJeremy Paxman was born in Yorkshire in 1950 and educated at Malvern and St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.

For three years in the mid-seventies, Jeremy Paxman was based in Northern Ireland, where he covered the Troubles for the BBC. In 1977, he joined the Tonight programme, for which he was a roving reporter. This was followed by five years as a reporter on Panorama, where assignments took him frequently to Africa, the Americas and the Middle East.

Since 1989 he has anchored Britain’s premier news analysis programme, Newsnight (nightly, BBC2). For several years, he also presented Start The Week on BBC Radio Four. He became chairman of University Challenge in 1994. He has written widely for newspapers and magazines.

His books include A Higher Form of Killing (with Robert Harris), Through the Volcanoes: A Central American Journey; Friends in High Places: Who Runs Britain?; Fish, Fishing and The Meaning of Life; and the best-sellers The English: A Portrait of a People and The Political Animal: An Anatomy. On Royalty was published by Penguin in 2006.

His charitable interests include homelessness, mental health and education. In his spare time, he goes fly-fishing.

Awards include: Royal Television Society: Award for International Current Affairs, 1985. Voice of the Viewer and Listener: Award for best contribution to Television, 1993 and 1997. BAFTA: Richard Dimbleby Award, 1996 and 1999. Royal Television Society: Interview/Presenter of the Year 1997, 1998, and 2001 Broadcasting Press Guild: Award for best TV Performer in a non-acting role 1997. Variety club: Media Personality of the Year, 1999.

Peter Rowell

Peter RowellPeter Rowell is Executive Chairman of Regent Associates, the company he founded in 1987. Over the years he has built it to become Europe’s leading specialist provider of acquisition and corporate finance services to the technology industry. Based in the UK and operating throughout the world, Regent consistently heads league tables regarding the number of transactions completed in the sector.

Prior to that, Peter was President and CEO of International Data Corporation (IDC), responsible for the worldwide operations of the market research and consulting group. He also served on the main board of IDC’s parent company, International Data Group, the $3 billion a year information services organisation.

Peter is regarded as an authority on the changing structure of the technology industry. He speaks regularly at international conferences, appears on television and is often quoted in the press. He is an occasional lecturer at the London Business School. On various occasions he has been voted as being one of the most influential people in the UK and European technology industry. Likewise over the years, Regent has received various awards as “Advisor of the Year”.

Nigel Clifford 

Nigel CliffordSince joining Symbian in June 2005, Nigel Clifford has led the Company to key milestones such as reaching over 100 million Symbian OS license sales; the launch of over 100 phone models by Symbian OS licensees including the world’s largest handset manufacturers to over 250 network operators worldwide; growing Symbian’s market share from 61% to 73% of the smartphone market; and extending the company's global activities in India, China, Japan and elsewhere.

Nigel joined Symbian from Tertio Telecoms, a profitable telecommunications software organisation where he was CEO, working with private equity groups Apax Partners and Advent International to build and eventually sell the company. Prior to this, he headed up Cable and Wireless UK operations and was CEO of Glasgow Royal Infirmary University NHS Trust, one of the largest health providers in the UK between 1992-1998. He started his career with BT, holding a number of management roles, including business strategy and development with BT Mobile. Nigel is a graduate of Cambridge University and holds an MBA from Strathclyde University.

David Moschella

David MoschellaDavid Moschella is the Global Research Director – Executive Programme for the Leading Edge Forum. In this position, he guides a variety of research initiatives aimed at helping CEOs understand the ever-expanding intersection between business and technology. He is also an author and regular columnist for Computerworld, the IT industry's leading enterprise IT publication. His second book, Customer-Driven IT, How Users Are Shaping Technology Industry Growth, was published by Harvard Business School Press in 2003. The book assesses the implications of the shift from a supplier-driven to a customer-led IT industry.

Previously, David spent 15 years with International Data Corporation (IDC), the world’s largest IT market research and consulting firm. For six years, he served as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Research. In this position, he was IDC’s main spokesperson on global IT industry trends and was responsible for IDC’s global research strategy, including its worldwide technology, industry and market forecasts.

David holds a BA from Colby College, Waterville, Maine.

Bradford J Holmes

Bradford HolmesBrad leads Forrester's Technology Industry research organization, which helps technology industry professionals strategize, plan, promote, and go to market. Brad is responsible for a research agenda that illuminates strategic opportunities and risks, market demand and competitive dynamics, marketing and sales best practices, smart organizational strategies, and the use of emerging technology to improve business results for technology vendors. Brad's organization focuses particularly on serving strategy, marketing, analyst relations, and market research leaders.

Brad has been with Forrester for more than six years, building and leading research organizations and Forrester's business in the government and healthcare markets. He is an established expert, frequent speaker, and widely quoted analyst on the health insurance, provider, pharmaceutical, and device markets and the technology vendors that serve them.

Brad's professional experience before coming to Forrester was wide-ranging. While a vice president at UnitedHealthcare, he led product development and provider contracting groups and launched United's Options PPO product. At Mobil Oil, Brad engineered a healthcare benefits overhaul, which resulted in two years of premium rebates to Mobil's employees. He also led marketing and sales at a startup provider of eCommerce pharmacy systems for healthcare organizations.

Brad has also worked in healthcare delivery, developing marketing, operations, and human resource processes for a startup chain of urgent-care centers and providing business management services for group medical practices in Boston.

An experienced public speaker about the impact of technology on healthcare and consumers, Brad has spoken to numerous organizations in recent years, including the annual Institute meeting of the America's Health Insurance Plans (AHIP), the World Healthcare Congress, the National Managed Healthcare Congress (NMHCC), and Convergence — The Life Sciences Leaders Forum. He has been quoted regularly in the media, including on Marketplace and CNBC, as well as in The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.

Brad holds a bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, where he developed a case study for the Dartmouth Medical School curriculum. He earned his M.B.A. degree from the Darden School at the University of Virginia, winning the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence.

Anthony Miller

Anthony MillerPart of the IT industry for over 30 years, Anthony switched tracks into equity research in '04, joining Arete's software and IT services team. He now spends most of his time tracking Indian IT and BPO services stocks and eating a lot more curry. Anthony was previously research director at IT analyst firm Ovum, where he led its UK and European IT services research programmes. For many years Anthony worked alongside UK IT services guru Richard Holway, and on a good day was regarded as one of the more stimulating commentators on the UK IT services sector. Prior, Anthony was with IT analyst firm International Data Corporation (IDC) in Sydney and London. Anthony started his career in the IT industry with IBM in the early 70's, where he paid his dues for nearly twenty years in various management, marketing and technical consulting roles in London, Sydney and Tokyo.

Doug Richard 

Doug RichardHaving appeared in the second series of Dragons' Den, Doug is the founder and Chairman of Library House, Founder and Vice-Chairman of the Cambridge Angels, Co-Founder and Chairman of Hotxt and Chairman of the Conservative Party Small Business Task Force.

Doug is a successful entrepreneur with 20 years' experience in the development and leadership of technology and software ventures, both in the US and in the UK. Between 1996 and 2000 he was President and CEO of Micrografx, a US publicly quoted software company which he sold to Corel Corp. in 2000. Prior to that he also founded and subsequently sold two other companies: Visual Software and ITAL Computers. Doug holds a BA in Psychology from University of California at Berkeley and a Juris Doctor at the school of Law, University of California at Los Angeles. In 2006 Doug was an Honorary Recipient of The Queen's Award for Enterprise Promotion.

Mike Harris

Mike HarrisMike Harris is founder of Egg Plc which is one of the leading Internet Banks. The Company was launched in October 1998 and is seen as a European leader in developing a successful open-finance model appropriate for the New Economy. In January 2001 Mike became Executive Vice Chairman of this highly recognised Company. In addition to his role as Egg’s leading CEO, outside of business he is a Board Member at "The Club of Budapest", a think tank on the impact of the New Economy on society and has served on Government Committees concerned with the transformation of public services.

Mike comes from a background within the telecommunications industry and was CEO of Mercury Communications. Between 1991 and 1994 Mercury was the UK’s second largest telecommunications operator.

He founded and was CEO of FirstDirect from 1988 - 1991 covering the start-up period of the UK’s hugely successful on-line bank.

He has developed an approach to leadership which has drawn on coaching and re-invention models and on the new science of complexity, and which is designed to inspire a whole organisation to take on impossible challenges in service of a purpose bigger than the organisation itself.

Mike has extensive conference and seminar experience in talking about the new economy, its opportunities and its threat to existing business models, and about "New Economy Leadership" and its key tools of "management of context" and "Open eyed commitment". Harris believes that the new economy represents the most rapid and profound change ever experienced by society and business. He is highly motivational and dynamic whilst inside knowledge make him one of the world’s most successful speakers on the new economy. Mike illustrates points from his own experiences and always seeks to be provocative and inspirational whilst using humour to add some fun to the occasion.

Anil Hansjee

Anil HansjeeAnil Hansjee joined Google in September 2006 as Head of Corporate Development for Europe, Middle East and Africa, based in London. Prior to joining, Anil was a Principal with the venture capital firm IDG Ventures, where he was board director of one of their portfolio companies, the mobile music company, Shazam Entertainment. Between mid 2000 and end of 2001, Anil was a Vice President for corporate finance with Bear Stearns International in London.

Between mid 1997 and mid 2000, Anil was a member of Chase Manhattan Bank's corporate finance group both in New York and London. Anil joined Chase's corporate finance team after spending the first 7 years of his professional career as a software engineer first with UBS then Chase. Anil has a BSc.(Hons.) in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science from Edinburgh University and has an MSc. in Finance at London Business School.

Jon Moulton

Jon MoultonJon Moulton is Managing Partner of Alchemy, a UK-based private equity firm, which has invested £1.8 billion of equity with an emphasis on dealing with troubled companies. It recently completed the raising of a £300m European special opportunities fund.

He is a Chartered Accountant, a CF and Fellow of the Society of Turnaround Professionals. Previously worked with Citicorp Venture Capital in New York and London, Permira and Apax. He has been a director of five public companies, numerous private companies and is currently a director of the US-based Irvin parachute business, the Cedar IT business, Sylvan (timber) and Ashmore Group – a major investor in emerging market debt.

Richard Holway

Richard HolwayRichard Holway is considered to be one of the UK's leading ICT analysts.

Richard started in computing in 1966 as a programmer, joined Hoskyns (now Capgemini) in 1968 and progressed to join the board in 1979 as Group Marketing Director. In 1984, Richard was appointed Managing Director of Wootton Jeffreys plc before forming Richard Holway Limited in 1986.

Richard Holway Limited became the leading authority on the financial performance of the UK software and IT services market and its constituent companies. Richard launched the annual Holway Report in 1988. In 1989 he published the first edition of the monthly newsletter SYSTEMhouse and, in 1996, the Hotnews internet news service - one of the very first technology "blogs". All are still being published today in 2007.

In November 2000 Richard Holway Limited was acquired by Ovum and the service continued as Holway@Ovum. Ovum is the largest technology research analysis and consulting company head quartered outside the US. Ovum has offices throughout the world. Richard was appointed as a director of Ovum as well as continuing as a leading analyst with Ovum.

In March 2006. Ovum successfully IPOed on AIM at 190p. In Dec. 06, Datamonitor acquired Ovum for £42m/300p; a considerable premium. Richard stepped down from the board at that time.

In 2002, Richard was one of the founding members of the Prince's Trust Technology Leadership Group and has raised over £4m for the Trust since. Richard's annual speeches have themselves raised over £500,000 to help disadvantaged young people. Richard became the Chairman of the Group in Apr 07.

Richard has considerable experience as an NED (both of private and publicly quoted companies) and as an advisor to the boards of leading ICT companies (see full CV). Currently, Richard sits on BT Global Services' Advisory Board and on the advisory board at Elderstreet Capital Partners. In January 2007, Richard was appointed a non executive director at the publicly quoted Finsbury Technology Trust (FTT) which was renamed RCM Technology Trust plc in April 07. In April 07, Richard was appointed as a non executive director on the board of Regent Partners International Ltd - the holding company of M&A specialists Regent Associates.

Richard undertakes assignments and other advisory roles outside Ovum via Farnham Consulting.

Crispin O'Brien 

Crispin O'Brien During an international career of 29 years, including two years in Hong Kong and three years in Japan as an expatriate partner, Crispin gained considerable experience in international business, focusing on technology.

He has led many large audit and tax engagements for electronics companies in Europe (including Canon, Motorola and Mitsubishi Electric) and also been an advisor to a number of government organisations. As lead partner he has worked with many other global technology companies, including Fujitsu, Reuters and HP.

In addition to providing audit services, Crispin has worked with global companies on governance and risk management, transfer pricing, supply chain restructuring, revenue enhancement and efficiency issues.

He was deputy chairman of KPMG’s Global Electronic Steering Group from 1999 to 2002.

Crispin qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1980 and became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants following work comparing UK/Japanese G.A.A.P. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society.

Crispin wrote the ‘Electronic in Focus’ survey in 2001, which received widespread press coverage.

In 2005 he co-authored “A Wake-up Call for Europe”, a survey of European CIOs on IT sector competitiveness.

John Higgins

John HigginsJohn Higgins was appointed Director General of Intellect at its launch in May 2002. Intellect represents around 800 large and small organisations including BAE Systems, BT, EDS, IBM, Intel, LogicaCMG, Microsoft, Motorola, Nokia, Philips, SAP, Sony and many more. Intellect brings high-tech companies together to influence public policy, develop markets, and improve members' business performance.

John has worked in IT since graduating in 1975. He trained as a Systems Analyst and Project Manager with the London Brick Company before moving to Triad Computing Systems in the mid-eighties. He also held senior positions with Ernst & Young and software applications company SSA prior to joining Rocket Networks, one of the first UK and west coast US based dotcoms, as CEO in 1995. He became Director General of one of Intellect's predecessors, CSSA, in April 1998.

John has an honours degree in Mathematics from UEA and a Diploma in Accounting and Finance from the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. He is a member of the governing Council of the University of Warwick and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 2004 John was presented with the Individual Award for outstanding contribution to the trade association sector by the Trade Association Forum. John was awarded a CBE in the Queen's birthday honours list 2005. He is married with three children and lives in Hertfordshire.

John has led and/or contributed to many industry and industry/government bodies and initiatives dealing with a wide range of issues; from the strategy for a Digital Britain, the better use of IT in public service delivery and the use of IT in the NHS to the factors that could contribute to increased innovation and growth in the electronics sector, and the exploitation of intellectual property across the hi-tech value chain. In these activities he has worked with Secretaries of State, Ministers, policy professionals, Government officials and industry executives.

John is Vice President of the European high-tech industry association, EICTA. He is a member of the steering committee of the Word IT Services Association. In 2005, he led Intellect's hosting in London of the World Electronic Forum. He is a regular conference and dinner speaker on a wide range of hi-tech industry topics.
