Intellect welcomes the acknowledgment of technology’s role in the creative economy

Intellect, the trade association for the technology industry, welcomes the Government’s Creative Economy Strategy and is pleased to see that role of technology in the creative economy is fully acknowledged in it.

The Creative Economy Strategy consists of 26 commitments. Intellect has a particular interest in the following:

The launch of a Creative Industry Knowledge Transfer Network. Intellect will draw on its work with other KTN’s to help play an active role in its development where possible.

The promotion of a better understanding of the importance of intellectual property. Having welcomed many of the recommendations in the Gower’s Review, Intellect is glad that they are acknowledged in the strategy.

Launching a review of the barriers to investment in next generation broadband. The Broadband Stakeholder Group is pleased to be contributing to the review - investigating the economic factors in implementing high speed broadband, having already produced several recommendations on this subject in its ‘Pipe Dreams’ report.

A five-year strategy, led by UK Trade and Investment, to enhance the international competitive position of the UK’s creative industries. Intellect has long felt that a clear vision is required to develop the UK’s position as an international creative hub. Director of Consumer Electronics, Laurence Harrison, says:

“Technology is not just a part of the creative economy - it also drives growth and innovation. In the converging world technology acts as an enabler, allowing the UK creative economy to compete on a global basis.”
