Security Strategy is not enough

Intellect today welcomes the publication of Government’s National Security Strategy.

Joel Grundy, Intellect's defence and security manager comments: "We believe this is a sound strategy which will potentially help shape a cohesive response to the security threats facing the UK. However, the strategy on its own is not enough - Government now has to focus on effective implementation or risk it becoming another well-meaning report that ends up sitting on a shelf.

"National security is a critical concern for UK companies, and Intellect is leading the technology industry’s efforts to address the risks from threats and natural hazards. We urge Government to use this strategy as a way to leverage the experience, innovation and skills of UK industry, and work with us to implement a comprehensive response to the challenges laid out in this report.

"For example, the strategy correctly identifies cyber warfare and the need for greater transparency and information sharing as key areas. We believe that the UK needs to be prepared for these types of emerging threats, and that the knowledge and expertise of its people is the key to developing effective security."
