Data Breach Notification Working Group

Chair:
Barbara Tsai Navarro
Sapior Ltd

Next meeting:

    Meeting dates to follow shortly

Background

Due to the growing list of serious data breaches, data privacy has become an unavoidable concern for both the public and private sector. The Lords Science and Technology Committee recently called for the creation of a data security breach notification law and a centralised e-crime reporting system. The current debate has moved past whether there should be a Breach Notification requirement and on to what it should look like and achieve.

About the group

Intellect has set up a Data Breach Notification Working Group to examine the viability of the introduction of a data breach notification requirement in the UK and the issues for policy makers to consider. The group will lead Intellect's campaign that looks to raise the profile of data breach as a business issue and the serious implications that it will have on our economy if it continues unchecked.

Objectives

The Data Breach Notification Working Group’s objective is to write a position paper on the issue. The purpose of this paper is to facilitate the legislative process by providing industry views and thoughts on the important issues and considerations around the possible introduction of a data breach notification requirement in the UK. The paper focuses on how to respond to a breach and on what to do to minimise the risk in the future.

The group is also planning to release further papers on this theme. We would welcome your input and ideas.

Membership

The membership of this group is open to all interested Intellect member companies.
