Current activities
Intellect recently responded to a Department for Energy and Climate Change consultation on 'burdensome regulations'. Part of the response came from our data centre members and we focused on the Carbon Reduction Commitment - you can find the response here (please login at the top of this page first).
The Data Centres Group has produced a report aimed at the UK Government and regulators: 'Data centres: the backbone of the UK economy'. The report outlines the vital role that datacentres play in upholding both the public sector and private sector businesses, promotes the importance of data centres, and encourages the Government to consider the views of the industry more consistently when developing policy.
This document is an important step in formulating the UK datacentre industry's collective position, and will provide the basis for many stakeholders' understanding of the importance of the industry.
Following a series of Group meeting discussing the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Intellect has begun discussions with the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) to explore the possibility of setting up a Climate Change Agreement (CCA) for the data centre sector in the UK.
The UK data centre industry will be potentially hit hard by new CRC legislation. Intellect is working with DECC to understand the criteria for a CCA, taking a lead role in representing the sector and co-ordinating an agreement which could bring substantial environmental and financial benefits. Intellect is ideally placed to co-ordinate a CCA and bring together a sector which is fundamental to the UK economy.
