Biometrics

Join Intellect

In this section we present Intellect’s involvement in the biometrics sector discussing the cross-over between this area and other Intellect programmes, and explore the business opportunities that this creates for you.

In 2007 Intellect, recognising the growing biometrics sector, formed the Intellect Association for Biometrics. Both the identity management and security arenas are rapidly increasing their use of biometrics technology. The world biometrics market has expanded exponentially, thanks largely to its adoption in the security domain.  Between 2000 and 2010 annual growth is forecast at 33%.

Domestically, biometric technologies are an established feature of UK Visas and passports. These are now also becoming part of the Home Office’s National Identity Scheme. It is also possible that biometrics will feature in forthcoming major events such as London 2012.

Biometric technologies are also used in the private sector, as the healthcare, utilities and construction industries attest to. Their deployment in the financial services industry, for example in tracking employees’ financial transactions, demonstrates a common agenda with Intellect’s transformational business groups.

Intellect will ensure that you are kept fully informed of all key developments within the sector, including the development of new applications and value-based uses for biometrics. We also facilitate the exchange of expertise and information between the industry and the key stakeholder groups.  Most importantly we will make you aware of new business opportunities that arise from growth within the biometrics sector.

Examples of Intellect’s direct involvement in major projects/procurements:

  • Police Information Technology Organisation: Facial Images National Database
  • Association of Chief Police Officers and Home Office Science Development Branch: Digital Imaging
  • Home Office: National Identity Scheme
