Inmarsat

Ruy joined Inmarsat in 1990, starting as a senior software engineer supporting the Inmarsat 2 and Inmarsat 3 Programmes in various technical project management assignments. In the mid nineties Ruy led the technical implementation of operations automation for the Inmarsat 2 and 3 satellite generations at the Inmarsat Satellite Control Centre.

Eight years ago Ruy was promoted to Manager of the Satellite Control Department with responsibility for on-station control of the fleet of Inmarsat satellites and development and maintenance of all satellite control functionality and activities associated with both current and future Inmarsat satellite generations. For the Inmarsat 4 satellites this included the complete refurbishment of our Control Centres, newly developed control software and hardware plus an upgrade to the Inmarsat global TT&C network.

Over the last six years Ruy has taken the lead on developing commercial opportunities for satellite control and navigation services at Inmarsat, including launch support activities for third-party operators, marketing and sales of Inmarsat satellite control software and all Navigation commercial activities. In addition Ruy has been deeply involved in Galileo Programme. In particular, Inmarsat is responsible for the In Orbit Testing of the Galileo satellites and intends to take a lead role in Galileo Operations.

Finally, Ruy is the Operations representative in the Inmarsat Corporate Risk Team and was for three years a Board Member of INVSAT, a fully owned Inmarsat subsidiary sold in 2006. Ruy has been actively involved in UKSpace for a number of years now, being the Inmarsat representative on the UKSpace Main Committee.

Ruy has a solid background in electronics and data communications. Ruy graduated in Electronics Engineering in 1981, followed by a post-graduate degree in Digital Telecommunications Systems in 1983.

In his early career, Ruy worked in software engineering. Ruy worked five years for EMBRATEL on the first domestic satellite programme in Brazil. Ruy has also worked as a consultant for SES Astra on software and ground segment, and on VSAT networks in the area of data communications software and data networks, managing the first large scale VSAT network implemented in Brazil.
