President's Report 2009 - State of the UK Technology Sector 2009

State of the UK Technology Sector 2009This year, Intellect is proud to be publishing the 'State of the UK Technology Sector 2009, President's Report' The report describes the conditions our industry is facing at the moment and then presents a snap shot of the sub-sectors through the eyes of specialist analysts. The economic environment has changed considerably in the last 12 months but as we have seen there is no 'broad brush' analysis that can truly describe the experience of the industry. This report looks to bring the diverse sectors together and provide a unique picture of our industry in this present moment.

President's Report 2008 - enhancing the performance of the UK technology sector and why it matters

President's Report 2008Intellect published its first President's Report. Using Intellect's barometer, the current health of the sector is looked at via what we consider to be the sector's four vital signs. It discusses the impact technology has on our society as a whole and identifies six boosters that Intellect believes are vital to ensuring a prosperous UK technology sector and therefore a more productive UK. This information resource is a must-read.

“The UK technology sector is at a pivotal point... Intellect believes that ever-closer collaboration between government and the sector is essential if we are to grasp the opportunities at hand...”

Sean Finnan, President of Intellect from 2007 - 2009, Managing Director, EDS, an HP Company“The CBI welcomes this innovative report from Intellect. The technology sector makes a vital contribution to the health of the UK economy and this report provides a telling analysis of the competitive challenges which it faces, and a plan for tackling them”.
John Cridland, Deputy Director-General, CBI

High tech: low carbon

High Tech: Low CarbonThe technology sector is a relatively new industry and has developed at extraordinary speed over the last few decades, and on a scale far beyond early predictions.

Technology now underpins most aspects of our daily lives and has transformed the way we interact with each other, the way we shop, access public services and run our businesses. But these developments come with associated costs: the vast majority of ICT and CE products and services use electricity, and as they become more and more pervasive, gross energy demand continues to rise.

This report demonstrates that we understand and acknowledge the challenges we face, that we are working extremely hard to address them and are making good progress. It also explores the beneficial effects of our technologies, which enhance existing processes, enable new ways of working and transform behaviour, helping to create a lower-carbon economy. The report also emphasises the importance of the timely adoption of alternative, low carbon technologies in tackling climate change and sets out the actions that we will take as an industry to play our part. This report is focused on energy efficiency, because energy efficiency is at the heart of the three biggest environmental problems that we now face: climate change, resource degradation and pollution. Energy efficiency reduces pollution and greenhouse gas emissions (in particular CO2) and makes better use of limited resources. It is also an area where we as a sector can make the most substantial contribution.
