Intellect comments on new climate change department

Intellect, the trade association for the UK technology sector, welcomes the creation of the new Energy and Climate Change Department. The high tech industries have taken on a leading role in their work on climate change and Intellect is looking forward to engaging with the new department on how technology provides solutions to climate change.

Laurence Harrison, Director of Intellect’s Energy and Environment work said:

“Intellect is pleased to see that the government has dedicated a department to the crucial issues of energy and climate change. The early identification and application of the best low carbon technologies is vital if the UK is to meet its carbon reduction targets. The sector is consistently improving the energy efficiency of products and services and technology plays a key role in enabling the reduction of carbon emissions across UK business as a whole. We look forward to working with the new Energy and Climate Change Department on developing technology’s role in tackling climate change and the policy framework that will support it.”

Intellect highlighted the role of technology in reducing carbon emissions in its High-Tech: Low Carbon report, released earlier this year. You can access the report at www.intellectuk.org/hightechlowcarbon
