Consumer Electronics

Background

Expenditure on CE products across Europe will top €68 Billion in 2008. The UK is the largest national market accounting for 26% of European sales in 2007.

Intellect represents all the major blue-chip CE manufacturers and our members account for around 70% of the UK CE market.

Achievements

Successfully lobbied for the confirmation of the Digital TV switchover project in 2005. Intellect have been board members of Digital UK, who manage the transition from analogue to digital TV, since 2005 and contributed to the development of the digital tick logo for digital TV equipment.

Helped to grow the HDTV market in the UK through development and introduction of the HD-ready logo across Europe and working closely with broadcasters on the introduction of HD services on Freesat and Freeview.

Contributed to the European code of conduct on energy efficiency and helped develop the Energy Savings Trust (EST) Energy Savings Recommended (ESR) logo which identifies the most energy efficient CE products.

Grown Intellect as the voice of CE manufacturers and developed the annual Intellect CE Conference which is the one point in the year where manufacturers, retailers, broadcasters and government come together to discuss the development of the market.
