Software Group and Legal Affairs Group Joint Meeting Contracting for Software as a Service, 08 July 2008 (members only) more»

About the group
The Software Group has been established, initially, as a working group. As such its purpose is to represent the views of the software industry (as represented by its members) and to seek to optimise the trading environment in which Intellect members operate. It will do this by identifying the key issues facing the software industry, devise proposals to address these issues and then seek to influence the relevant organisations to effect their implementation. In doing this the target audience would include customers, government, the media and other industry associations.

Group Scope
To represent the views of the UK Software Industry and optimise the trading environment in which Intellect members operate through activities such as lobbying stakeholders and producing position papers. The group would be complementary to existing Intellect activity.

The target audience for this group will include customers, Government, Parliamentarians, other Industry bodies and the media.

Membership
The membership of this group is open to all interested Intellect member companies.

Terms of reference
The group will focus on the software industry and anything that may affect it. Suggested topics for research and lobbying will include:

  • promoting the UK Software Industry to key stakeholders (e.g. ministers, officials, politicians and other opinion formers)
  • promotion of the UK as a place to develop software.
  • the Economic Impact of the Software Industry on UK GDP
  • promotion of SMEs & their issues to MPs especially of UK origin
  • the regulatory framework, both economic and political, in which the Software Industry operates
  • ensuring that UK Government provides a neutral “level playing field” for all software companies when procuring software
  • working to provide a tax regime that supports the UK Software Industry
  • promoting the importance and value of Intellectual Property Rights to the economy and ensuring that companies are able to gain a fair return on investment in R&D
  • assisting in the development of Intellect guidance on issues such as software licensing and pricing
  • promoting the importance of software in a number of vertical markets e.g. retail, financial services, central civil government
