Clive Richardson

Clive Richardson
President of the Intellect Board

Clive Richardson was born in Grimsby in the UK and educated at Clee Humberstone Foundation School in Lincolnshire, Kings’ College London, (where he read law) and the Inns of Court School of Law at Grays’ Inn. He was called to the Bar in 1982 and in 1983 joined British Aerospace Civil Aircraft Limited in its export sales centre.

Clive left BAe in the mid 1980s and worked as a Commercial Manager for Westland Helicopters and GEC Marconi prior to returning to become Commercial Director of BAe Airbus Limited.  In November 1999 he was appointed Managing Director of Royal Ordnance plc. In May 2004 Insyte was created, bringing together the assets of Alenia Marconi Systems and BAE Systems Network Systems and Solutions and Clive was made its first CEO. Clive joined QinetiQ in 2007 as Chief Operating Officer EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Australasia) where he ran all of the business outside the United States. In 2009 Clive formed his own consulting business, Charles Porter, specializing in interim and transition management and became an Associate at Capgemini.

In July 2009 Clive also became Group CEO of V.Group, the world’s largest provider of commercial ship management services. V. Group is an international business with 60 offices in 50 countries worldwide, providing full technical management and crew management for 1000 vessels. In addition, the Group includes a sizeable marine, products and services business as well as a full suite of marine financing and brokering services.

Intellect is the trade association representing companies within the IT, telecoms and electronics sector. As VP Defence Clive represented the interests of Intellect’s defence company members from 2004 until he became Intellect’s President in 2009. Representing Intellect, Clive was a member of the influential UK National Defence Industries Council for over five years. The NDIC is the Government/Industry defence consultation authority, which aims to ensure that the interests of the UK defence industry and the UK MoD converge. During his tenure Clive contributed to the development and the introduction of the UK Defence Industrial Strategy and the UK Defence Technology Plan.

Clive has two daughters and one son, all still at school.  A former rugby player Clive likes to keep fit.  He runs, skis and plays golf and enjoys going to the theatre and reading books.  He is a Fellow of the RSA, the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Commerce and Manufacturing.
