IT Strategy is a positive next step, says Intellect
UK hi-tech industry welcomes e-GU IT Strategy, and in response launches new Public Sector Council

Intellect has today welcomed the publication of the e-Government Unit’s IT Strategy, and its focus on seizing the opportunity provided by technology to transform the business of government.

Commenting following the launch of the document John Higgins, Intellect’s Director General said;“Over the past three years industry and government have worked hard to cultivate a successful customer/supplier relationships based on honesty, openness and trust.  We maintain our commitment to this goal, and our members consider the IT Strategy to be an intelligent and positive next step which will ensure that the pace of reform is maintained.”

In response to the IT Strategy Intellect has today announced the creation of a new Public Sector Council. The Council has been developed to further strengthen suppliers relationship with government customers.  It will provide a forum through which the supplier community can discuss and disseminate industry views on a range of public sector issues and developments and, importantly, work closely with the e-Government Unit to implement the Supplier Management aspect of the Strategy.

Commenting on the launch of the Intellect Public Sector Council, John Higgins said;“If the IT Strategy is to deliver on its objectives then it is vital that its implementation is conducted in partnership with industry, and that industry’s views are heard.”

“Over the coming months the Public Sector Council will work to impress on the eGovernment Unit the need for Government customers to demonstrate fairness, understanding and proportionality on matters that are of key importance to commercial companies.  To develop a more intelligent customer capability, and to continue to build a closer relationship with Industry through Intellect’s IT Supplier Code of Best Practice and Intellect’s Concept Viability service.  We believe that the Public Sector Council will create a seamless communication process between Industry and government, and in parallel with the continuing work of the Senior IT Forum we believe that long term, positive change can be achieved.”
