UK ICT Industry raises the professionalism bar Intellect professionalism paper identifies characteristics of professional ICT supply organisations Intellect, the trade association for the UK hi-tech industry, has today announced the latest phase in its programme of activities aimed at improving behaviours within the ICT industry, something which it considers vital if the UK is to remain competitive within the global economy.
The new Intellect Professionalism Programme is designed to ensure that IT professionalism is embedded within all aspects of the supply chain, and is being developed in conjunction with the eGovernment Unit, major customer groups and professional institutions, including the British Computer Society and Computing, the IT Newspaper.
To mark the beginning of this latest phase of activity Intellect has announced the publication of ‘IT Supplier Professionalism: an Intellect perspective’, a scoping paper on the issue of professionalism. The paper identifies the initial characteristics of professional ICT supply organisations and outlines the programmes ambitious schedule of activity for 2006. This will include extensive stakeholder debate through the ‘Professionalising IT’ initiative being jointly undertaken with Computing during March, and the publication of guidelines designed to help suppliers demonstrate that they operate to professional standards and help customers assure themselves of the quality of their ICT suppliers.
Commenting, Nick Kalisperas, Director at Intellect said: “Together with other Intellect initiatives such as the IT Supplier Code of Best Practice, Concept Viability and the Senior Responsible Industry Executive, this new programme of activity represents another important step for the industry; demonstrating its maturity and responsibility to customers and the wider stakeholder community. We believe this programme will generate significant long-term benefits for all involved in project and programme delivery.”
Commenting, Stephen Darvill, Chair of Intellect's Professionalism Working Group, said: “ICT is at the heart of so many aspects of life, it is therefore essential that the thousands of UK supplier businesses are managed to tight professional standards. It is in the interests of suppliers and users of ICT services that we have a common set of standards for defining and measuring the professionalism of ICT supply organisations. Through Intellect, large and small ICT supply companies have come together to define and agree those common standards."
