Intellect Director General receives CBE in Queen's Birthday Honours List
John Higgins, Director General of Intellect, has been awarded a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to the IT industry.
The CBE is recognition of the crucial role Higgins has played in the creation and development of Intellect. The trade association works to accelerate the growth of the hi-tech industry in the UK and maximise its contribution to the UK's prosperity.
Over the past year Higgins has led calls for a 'knowledge economy' minister; a champion with a clear single remit for driving the knowledge economy forward, responsible for the key levers: innovation, skills, infrastructure and the creation of an enabling policy environment.
He has also driven Intellect's partnership with Number 10 on the development of the recently launched Digital Strategy. The Digital Strategy will exploit the potential of broadband-enabled content, applications and services to help UK citizens become healthier, better educated and more engaged in their communities and society.
John Higgins, commenting on his CBE, said: "Technology impacts every aspect of our society and our economy. Our ability to exploit and absorb its potential will determine whether we succeed or fail in the global knowledge economy. I'm delighted to receive this award as recognition of the tremendous work of Intellect’s members and staff, and all those who are contributing to the continued development and success of Intellect. It also helps draw attention to the importance of both the ICT and electronics industry and Intellect, its trade association, to the UK's transformation into a world-leading knowledge economy."
