Intellect to bring CE industry together at second annual conference

Intellect, the trade association for the UK hi-tech industry, in partnership with ERT and ERM, has confirmed it will be holding the second annual Consumer Market Conference: New Technologies, New Competition, on 4th July 2006 in London’s Cumberland Hotel.

The event will address the new technologies and competitors which are shaping today’s consumer electronics.  Today’s market witnesses increased competition, leading to the formation of key industry partnerships delivering high quality products; a high volume consumer market with unprecedented price erosion and battles to be market leaders in emerging technology areas.  All this is taking place against the background of a retail sector that is coming to terms with consumers’ changing buying habits.

Confirmed keynote speakers at the conference include Alun Michael MP, Minister of State for Industry at the DTI, John Clare, CEO of  Dixons Store Group, Andrew Burke, CEO of BT Entertainment and David Tansley, Technology, Media and Telecommunications Partner at Deloitte.

Commenting, Laurence Harrison, Director of Consumer Electronics at Intellect said:

“The UK remains the leading European CE marketplace with a huge consumers appetite for technology. Although the market is difficult, there are still many reasons to be optimistic. For example, demand for HD flat panels will continue to increase as content becomes available throughout the year, and there is reason to believe emerging technologies such as IPTV and Home Media centres grow in their appeal.”

“The purpose of this conference is to hear about the products that will be driving the market over the next 12 months and to understand the major business trends that are shaping the sector in the UK.  We know that delegates who came last year were able to make key decisions on the direction of their business based on what they heard, and given the industry leaders scheduled to speak in July’s conference, we know this will be the case again this year.”

In addition, there will be an evening reception to celebrate over 20 years of Electrical Retailing, at which there will be a screening of the World Cup semi-final live, giving delegates and invited guests the opportunity to network with clients and members of the industry throughout the day and in to the evening.
