Home Office is taking the right approach on ID Cards, says hi-tech industry
Intellect comments as Procurement Strategy Market Sounding is announced

Intellect, the trade association for the UK hi-tech industry has welcomed today's announcement by Tony McNulty, Minister for Immigration, Citizenship and Nationality relating to the publication of Procurement Strategy Market Sounding documents for the proposed ID Cards programme.

Commenting following the Ministers statement Nick Kalisperas, Public Sector Director, Intellect said;

"This is exactly the kind of approach industry has been asking for.  The ID Cards project will only be a success if industry and government have a complete understanding of the proposed schemes requirements, objectives and goals.  We consider today's announcement to be a positive and intelligent development.  Early supplier engagement between customers and suppliers is fundamental to government modernisation project success. Only through a comprehensive understanding of the industry, its capacity and its capabilities will the Government be in a position to develop an ID Card scheme capable of delivering on its promises to citizens."

"Intellect welcomes the opportunity to continue working with the Home Office through Concept Viability.  Our members and the wider UK technology industry have the ability to meet the technological challenges created by the Government's ID Cards proposals, and remain confident that the proposed 2008 deadlines can be met.  We continue to invite all who express concern about the technological implications of the Card to engage with us in a robust discussion."
