24/11/05 Industry committed to working together to secure a more prosperous future New UK Electronics Alliance will unite industry in order to deliver DTI’s electronics KTN
AFDEC, Electronics Scotland, GAMBICA, IABM, Intellect, JEMI, NMI and the Welsh Electronics Forum have today pledged to join forces to deliver on recommendations within the Government’s EIGT report, and to take the lead in making the UK electronics industry more productive, joined-up and competitive.
The group of industry trade bodies have announced that they will unite under the banner of the UK Electronics Alliance (UKEA), and that their joint goal will be to ensure that the UK electronics industry is able to compete successfully against its global competitors. The group’s first focus will be to secure ownership of the DTI’s Electronics Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN), and it has made an Expression of Interest for funding to manage the programme.
The UKEA firmly believes that only industry representatives will have the knowledge and understanding to effectively lead and deliver on the KTN’s objectives of developing and implementing effective mechanisms to support the UK’s electronics industry.
Representing the UKEA, Charles Ward, Chief Operating Officer at Intellect, said:“During the past 6 months the trade bodies of the UKEA have been working hard to convince the DTI of the vital importance of a KTN for the electronics industry. This hard work has paid off, and industry’s commitment remains as strong. Through the UKEA industry now wants to unite in order to build on this momentum, to create a dynamic sustainable network to exploit the opportunities that the market presents and to ultimately deliver a highly effective KTN for the UK electronics sector.”
