Local Authorities Encouraged to Showcase Innovation
Local authorities are encouraged to highlight innovation and best practice taking place through their delivery of
e-Government services at the prestigious Local Government IT Excellence Awards

The Local Government IT Excellence Awards are organised by Intellect, SOCITM and SOLACE and sponsored by Nabarro Nathanson, Xansa and OGCbuying.solutions. Now in their tenth year, the awards seek to highlight the use of best practice in local government and how IT has been used both effectively and innovatively to deliver Best Value public services.

Charles Ward, Chief Operating Officer, Intellect and Chair of the Judging Panel commented, "The Local Government IT Excellence Awards highlight exceptional projects being deployed by local authorities and show how much they contribute to the progress by achieving first class services for local government."

He continued, "We are confident that on this tenth year of the awards, the entries will continue to excel. We have seen outstanding projects in the past and every year seems to surpass the last, leaving it a tough act to follow. We see the industry continually improving standards and challenging the traditional methods of thinking."

Last year’s winner was East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s, ‘MyEastriding’ project. MyEastriding provides access via an authenticated login to personalised location based information together with front and back office integration allowing customer access to the Authority’s CRM. In addition there are facilities for the customer to make payments, track identifiable service requests and link to pertinent local information.

The 2004 Awards also included runners-up, Bracknell Forest Borough Council, ‘BF AnyWhere’ - Bracknell Forest Flexible Working Portal and Lichfield District Council with Staffordshire-Moorlands District Council, The First Joint Procurement of IT Services who were highly commended.
The deadline for entries is Friday, 12 August 2005. The shortlist will be selected in September with the winners presented with their awards at the Socitm Conference in October.
