Semiconductor Businesses Association joins Intellect
Intellect, the trade association for the UK hi-tech industry, has today announced that the Semiconductor Businesses Association (SBA) will be incorporated into its membership of UK technology, telecoms and electronics firms. This follows a lengthy and successful informal link between the two organisations, and will enable even greater partnership on a range of issues including the relationship with the DTI, and more specifically the DTI's Electronic Design programme.
The SBA and its members will benefit from Intellect's continued broad coverage of the electronics industry and its "single voice" authority, now heard through out Government. In addition the SBA will also bring to Intellect a strong history of design and innovation, which will further strengthen Intellect's own approach to these subjects, as well as ensuring it remains at the forefront of activities.
Commenting on the merger John Higgins, Intellect's Director General said, "We welcome the SBA's members to Intellect, and hope that as a single organisation we will have a stronger, more coherent voice with which to press our case. Enabling us to become a clear focal point on the issue of electronic design and innovation."
"Innovation is of course, the UK's Unique Selling Point, and as the global market pressure increases, will fast become a critical enabler to keeping UK plc ahead of its competition."
Dr Mike Woodley, current Chairman of the SBA commented, "The SBA has been successful in representing the interests of its member companies involved in many aspects of electronic and microelectronic design. I believe this merger will be an opportunity for the combined forces of SBA and Intellect to establish a group giving a single voice for the wider electronic design and innovation sector of UK industry and to assist it in maintaining and growing its global competitiveness"
The merger takes effect immediately and to welcome SBA members Intellect is planning a Design and Innovation seminar, taking place 17 March, before going on to hold an inaugural meeting in April.
