East Riding of Yorkshire Council – Winner of Local Government IT Excellence Awards
East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s ‘MyEastriding’ project has today been named as the winner of the Intellect, Socitm, Solace Local Government IT Excellence Awards, supported by Intellect member companies Cable & Wireless UK, Capita IT Services, Comino Plc, INPUT, OKI Systems (UK) Ltd. ‘MyEastriding’ was selected from over 31 nominees for its pioneering approach to adopting and promoting the use of e-technology to develop integrated services, which reach out and become closer to the community. ‘MyEastriding’ provides access via an authenticated login to personalised location based information together with front and back office integration allowing customer access to the Authority’s CRM. In addition there are facilities for the customer to make payments, track identifiable service requests and link to pertinent local information. The project helps to resolve the issues of rural isolation and encourages the use of e-technology, in a supported environment, to improve access to facilities and services for everyone. The announcement was made at Socitm’s annual conference (12 Oct), and was presented by Charles Ward, Services Director of Intellect and Chair of the award judging panel. Commenting on the winning project Charles said, “Now in their ninth year, the Local Government IT Excellence Awards continue to provide the opportunity to recognise and reward local government organisations that have used ICT to effectively and innovatively deliver best value public services.” He continued, “As with the previous eight years, this year’s entries continue the trend of improving standards, and the winner, East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s ‘MyEastriding’ is an exemplary example of a project which has challenged the traditional methods of thinking, and has shown real courage in the adoption and promotion of e-technology. The judges were amazed by the council’s balance of innovation, and ease of use and the projects success in reaching out to the community.” The other winners commended for their individual successes and contributions were – Runner Up - Bracknell Forest Borough Council, ‘BF AnyWhere’ - Bracknell Forest Flexible Working Portal ‘BF AnyWhere’ is a Web-Based Portal, which supports new flexible working initiatives for Bracknell Forest Borough Council staff. The Portal provides secure access to offices systems, regardless of physical location, greatly improving work/life balance whilst raising the standard of services available to citizens and other consumers of the Council’s services. The project supports the Council in achieving its medium term objectives by reducing its overall expenditure on office accommodation, creating a flexible working environment enabling its staff and members to access IT systems from any location and in new and innovative ways. Highly Commended - Lichfield District Council with Staffordshire-Moorlands District Council, The First Joint Procurement of IT Services This is believed to be one of the first ICT outsourcing to be commissioned jointly by two councils (Lichfield District Council and Staffordshire-Moorlands District Councils) resulting in the award of a five-year partnership contract with one of the market leaders in the public sector environment. By joining forces, the two councils have made dramatic savings both in the procurement process and the pricing of the service. Together they procured a service delivery model and standard of service which could not have been obtained individually. About the Awards - Organised by Intellect, SOCITM and SOLACE, and now in their ninth year, the awards seek to highlight the use of best practice in local government and how IT has been used both effectively and innovatively to deliver Best Value public services. The awards are being supported by Intellect member companies Cable & Wireless UK, Capita IT Services, Comino Plc, INPUT, OKI Systems (UK) Ltd.
