House of Commons Work and Pensions Sub-Committee Recommends Intellect's Concept Viability for all DWP IT projects
Intellect today welcomes the publication of the House of Commons Work and Pensions Sub-Committee report into IT projects and its recommendation that all future DWP IT-enabled business change projects should be subject to Concept Viability.
Launched in December 2003, Concept Viability is a new service offered by the IT industry through its trade body Intellect to the public sector. It seeks to enable public sector organisations to use industry as a 'sounding board'; helping them to effectively assess the potential technological risks associated with specific public sector IT projects, before progressing from concept to delivery. As part of the same package of measures designed to ensure the successful delivery of public sector IT projects, Intellect also launched the IT Supplier Code of Best Practice, which establishes a clear set of standards that public sector clients can now expect from their IT suppliers.
Intellect also welcomes the Committee’s recommendations on developing a consistent set of qualifications for programme and project management and looks forward to working with all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that such an initiative achieves a successful outcome.
John Higgins, Intellect’s Director General, said "Early supplier involvement is fundamental to the success of any IT-enabled business change project. We invite all public sector organisations to consider whether Concept Viability would be appropriate for their projects and programmes."
