ID Cards – Building Trust & Confidence
In its submission to the Home Office consultation on ID Cards, Intellect, the trade association for the UK hi-tech industry, calls on all suppliers involved in the programme to adopt the Intellect Supplier Code of Best Practice as part of a wider drive to increase confidence in the success of the programme.
The Code establishes a clear set of standards that public sector clients can now expect from their IT suppliers. Public sector customers should also familiarise themselves with the contents of the Code and understand how it will improve the customer-supplier interface.
Intellect also reiterated its belief that all stakeholders, customers, suppliers, politicians, engaged in this initiative have a fundamental understanding of the business-change issues rather than just view the scheme as solely an IT-project. The technology which will form the basis of the card, has already been used in similar programmes across the world, and has been proven.
Through its technology-neutral ID Card Forum, launched in May, this year, Intellect is looking forward to working with the Home Office in the coming months to demonstrate the hi-tech sector’s ability to meet the technological challenges created by the Government’s ID Cards proposals and to further enhance the early supplier involvement which has already taken place.
