Up to the Challenge - ICT Industry Demonstrates ID Cards Delivery
As part of an ongoing consultation, representatives from the UK hi-tech industry and the public sector have today met to discuss the progression of the Government's proposed ID Cards Scheme and examine the key issues surrounding the technical implementation and delivery aspects of the project.
'ID Cards: The Next Steps', a one-day conference organised by Intellect and supported by The Home Office, enabled suppliers to engage with the Government for the first time since the proposed ID Cards plans were announced. Intellect also created a forum for industry representatives to effectively demonstrate the hi-tech sectors ability to meet the technological challenges created by the Government’s ID Cards proposals.
Intellect welcomes the Government's desire for early supplier involvement in the development of a national ID Cards Scheme and confirms that this event has further strengthened the 'modern' relationship between Government and industry.
Intellect also calls on all suppliers who have an interest in taking forward this project to play an active role in its technology-neutral ID Cards Forum over the coming months.
John Higgins, Intellect Director General commented, "This event was the next step in an ongoing dialogue between Intellect and the Home Office on the Government's proposals. We consider it a positive and intelligent development, as it has enabled the Government customers and industry suppliers to engage at the earliest possible stage to ensure understanding of requirements, objectives and goals."
"This is the beginning of the process, but it is already clear that success will only be achieved if open dialogue with industry is maintained. Only through a comprehensive understanding of the industry, its capacity and its capabilities will the Government be in a position to develop an IDs card scheme capable of delivering on its promises to citizens."
"Intellect members and the wider UK technology industry have the ability to meet the technological challenges created by the Government’s ID Cards proposals, and today has enabled suppliers to demonstrate that ability."
